Question by JPM: Is Acupuncture effective for relieving headaches, back and neck pain?
Over the years I have seen my a doctor, chiropractor and a massage therapist regarding my headaches and back and neck pain. I have had some success with all of them but still not enough to be satisfied. I am now looking at acupuncture and am curious if it would yield positive results.

Best answer:

Answer by Curious George
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can often be effective in treating chronic pain conditions and headaches. Further, idiopathic pain often responds to acupuncture better than conventional treatments.

If the back and neck pain are a result of structural deformations, such as a herniated disc, acupuncture will not make the pain go away for good. It would however help in long term management of the pain.

Acupuncture is a therapy process, and you must be ready to commit to a course of treatments over a period of time. Once will usually garner only very minor and very temporary changes in your condition.

I personally recommend 4 to 6 treatments in the beginning to establish how your body and condition will respond to treatment. If you have no results, or minimal results after 4 to 6 treatments you may want to explore other health-care treatments.

Question by Candy Noel: Sciatica Pain Treatment?
I have had sciatica pain for about a month. When I have neck pain I go to my Accupressure person (not accupuncture, no needles), and the next day I feel great and the pain is gone. I want to go see him for this sciatica pain, but am wondering if accupressure will make it better or make it worse. Has anyone out there used this treatment (pressure) for sciatica and how much has it helped? Thank you for any ideas you can offer. I do not want to take any drugs as the regular doctor suggests.

Best answer:

Answer by Obviousman
Wow, I feel your pain. A couple years ago, I had it bad. I went to a chiropractor and had to try a couple before I found one that worked best for me. You may need to try accupressure or chiropractic for relief. I know my adjustments make me feel great. My chiropractor doesn’t believe in drugs at all.

My last major episode was in 2006. I had to get some physical therapy, and I do some funky stretches every night. Mrs. Obviousman would laugh, but since I haven’t been in any back pain for almost 3 years, she doesn’t laugh any more. Besides, I can now touch my toes with my knees locked, and can almost put my palms on the floor.

Answer by SonoranAngel
One way to tell if you have meningitis is to see if you can touch your chin to your chest. If not, you have it and better get treated right away.

Question by Tex: I saw a chiropractor for shoulder pain, Now I have neck/head pain?
I was bringing my newborn to the chiropractor for acid reflux. I read it was a safe treatment for that, and I had already done all the traditional treatments with no result. He has not improved, but I was ok with that. I just figured I try.
I mentioned I had been having shoulder pain so I asked if she could check it out. She did an adjustment. I have my next appointment today and I am thinking I should cancel. My shoulder feels worse and now I have a weird neck pain with turning. The pain travels up the back of my head and gives me a headache. Now after doing some research I read neck adjustment can give you a stroke! I know I am not having one but I have been really lightheaded for days. I am afraid to go back. She is the nicest doctor I have ever met so I don’t know how to handle this. Should I go and explain my concerns of just call and cancel. Please help!
just to be clear what she did with my son was not at all like what she did with me. She didn’t twist anything on him it almost looked more like a massage.

Best answer:

Answer by Graybeard
The thought of someone taking an infant to a chiropractor is frightening. Chiropractic is an imaginary and irrational explanation of health and illness. Please google the National Council Against Health Fraud and Victims of Chiropractic. You’re correct in that chiropractic “adjustments” can cause permanent injury, stroke, and death. Keep in mind that quacks are the friendliest people you will meet… and people do not have adjustable spines.

Question by : Upper neck pain, feels like a stiff neck.?
I have been having pain in my upper neck right below my hairline for about 6 weeks now. It felt just like a stiff neck but its not getting better. I have a hard time looking down, I get pains, my head feels very heavy and I feel like I am getting tension headaches. I have tried changing pillows, sleeping positions, etc but nothing is helping. Im getting worried now its something more serious. Please help.

Best answer:

Answer by Babe
Somehow or other you have probably given or gotten a jolt to the head resembling whiplash. Your cervical spine is misaligned and that in turn puts a strain on the tendons and muscles supporting your head. Perhaps you are carrying around a child that is gaining weight.

Find a reputable chiropractor that will x-ray first to determine how badly out of whack your spine is before any manipulation is done. Relax and let her/him work magic! You will need more that one visit and you will probably be told to apply a warm compress to your neck to help keep the muscles from tensing up.

Six weeks is a long time to bear this pain.

Best wishes.
