When i touch these areas, the pain feels like electrocuted nerves. Some tension comes out of my thighs, with the feeling of pins and needles. My shoulders are also starting to droop. Is that correctable?

Question by StereoDeliPArts: Would chronic migraines and neck pain be enough to get a medical marijuana card?
I’m 19 and suffer from Chronic Migraines and some pretty bad neck and upper back pains. Marijuana helps sooth me and relieve the tension in my neck and shoulders along with easing the pain of my Headaches. Do you think that this would be enough for a recommendation from a doctor? Just wondering because I do live in Calif.

Question by : Strained muscles causing neck discomfort/stiffness & headaches?
I recently strained some neck muscles by leaning over backwards with my neck tense for a good amount or time(unintentionally of course)anyways, the strained muscles are causing neck discomfort and stiffness(especially whenever I first wake up because I always wake up in an odd position with my neck bent which I’m sure dosent help)and it’s also causing quite painful headaches.I do not want to take any pain medication as it is just a tension induced headache and it probably won’t do much good.I also am against going to the doctor because there’s not much they can really do other than give you some pain medication which I would prefer not to have.anyways,in the meantime while my strained muscles are healing, can anyone please suggest some things that I cab do to help relieve the neck pain and headaches?

Answer by Douglas B
Your neck muscles are tight and causing the headaches, you are right on that. To get rid of the pains and discomfort you have to free up your neck muscles and here’s how to do that:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about one minute, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Q&A: Worst Headache and Pain in Neck?

Question by LB: Worst Headache and Pain in Neck?
About an hour ago I got a headache and it is only on one side of my head, and above my eyes. It goes down into my neck and shoulder too. It is scaring me because the pain is constant not one that I can “rub” away. I have almost threw up several times with this. Does anyone know what this could be? I have never had a headache like this.
I also have a very sore spot on the middle of my spine in my neck.

What’s causing my Jaw, Neck, Headache Pain?

Question by little k: What’s causing my Jaw, Neck, Headache Pain?
For a couple weeks I have had some neck pain on the left side. Jaw pain on the left side and headache.I also got pain kinda by the ear. All my pain is on my left side. All of these symptoms are beyond annoying. I noticed I have been grinding my teeth a lot so I got a night guard. Which has been helping but I am still having all these symptoms. Sometimes I do feel a little dizzy. But all of this pain is making me feel like crap. I got my wisdom teeth pulled 3 years ago so that’s not my problem because I had similar symptoms when my teeth were bothering me. Any ideas what could be causing my problems? Any treatment Ideas? I want to get rid of this pain!!!

I was wondering if my chiropractor would help with my neck pain and jaw pain? I have been seeing my chiropractor for a year and has helped get some tension out of my neck and upper back.

Any treatment ideas? PLEASE HELP!

Question by abay98: I’ve had a severe migraine accompanied with vomiting and shoulder/neck pain…?
Last night around 9 PM, I started getting a headache. Over the next few hours, it started getting worse. I couldn’t sleep all night, and at about 4 in the morning, it was at its worst. I ended up going to the bathroom because I was feeling sick to my stomach. I threw up a lot – twice. My neck and shoulders hurt really bad, but the headache and sick feeling overpowered it. After I threw up, I was pretty exhausted, and ended up falling asleep after a while. Throughout the night I had taken some Tylenol PM and later, just an off brand extra strength pain relief. Today I still have a pretty bad headache, not as bad as last night, but my shoulders and neck hurt really bad. I don’t feel very sick, but I’m afraid to eat because I don’t want to throw up again. Anyway, I can’t get into the doctor for another hour and half, does anyone know anything I can do to help with the pain until my appointment??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
All of the questios are very helpful so far – I don’t think I’ll be able to pick a best answer. Anyway, I went to the doctor and she said it’s probably just from tension and that’s why I have the neck and shoulder pain. However, she’s just a doctor at our school who seems to shrug off a lot of things. The person who answered that it might be meningitis…is it really possible? Should I go to another doctor and bring that up to them? I read somewhere that meningitis is also accompanied with a rash. A couple weeks ago, I went to the doctor about a rash type thing that I keep getting on my legs and arms, but she said it was eczema. Could these symptoms be connected? I just want to be sure because meningitis is very deadly isn’t it? Before I came to college about 1.5 years ago, I got the shot…so I’d think that I’d be safe, right? Anymore advice on this subject would be helpful.

Living with a headache is hard enough but when it spreads to your neck and restricts movement it is so much worse.

Below are three tips to help you continue with your day.

1. Drink Plenty Of Fluids – It is believed that as many as ninety five percent of all headaches are caused by dehydration. Water is free, so you should use it as your first medication.

2. Hot And Cold Compacts – Tension in you neck can cause a headache, equally a headache can cause you to tense up and your neck to become stiff – the chicken and egg of headaches. Treat your neck as much as you would treat your headache. Try alternating hot and cold compacts to increase the blood flow and loosen the neck muscles.

3. Review Aspects Of Your Life – I know that you cannot remove all the stress in your life, or stop sitting at a desk to reduce your headaches, but you should try to establish what the triggers are for your headaches.

Once you have these you can monitor and control them to a degree. The best way to work out what triggers your headaches is the keep a diary. In this you need to describe the environment your were in when your headache started an also the time of day and the food you had eaten recently. Over time you should be able to see a pattern.

A headache is a symptom of a lifestyle. You should never consider your headaches as a life sentence, there are always ways to improve the situation.

Apart for traditional medications you should also consider alternative therapies, the above tips are a way to help your self and alternative therapies work along these lines so it is worth researching them a little more if you are new to the idea.

Remember that the best cure for headaches and neck pain is to stay relaxed, happy and to live healthily.
