Question by : should an abscess tooth be causing intense headaches and neck pain?
I have been having headaches for the past 3 weeks and wasn’t sure what was causing them. About a week ago, I started having dental pain. I went to the dentist and he told me I have an abscess tooth and gave me antibiotics. I’m supposed to get a root canal, but I know the dangers with abscess teeth and was wondering if I should be worried about headaches and neck pain.

Get the root canal! It’s the best treatment.

I get headaches, ear aches, eye aches, neck aches, and shoulder aches from teeth abscesses. I get them before I feel the abscess, so it can be confusing. Also, when the pain of the abscess itself starts, it goes all round my mouth, not just in one tooth. The last time I had the problem, I told the dentist that the pain was in a particular tooth, and she realised that I didn’t have that tooth any more! She located and fixed the abscess – root canal – and all the aches and pains disappeared.
